Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Joe Gomez, Darwin Nunez, and Virgil van Dijk began their pre-season training on Sunday, getting ready for the 2024-25 campaign under new manager Arne Slot.
These six players missed the Reds’ trip to the USA, having taken some time off to recharge after their international duties at the Copa America and Euro 2024 this summer.
Their preparation now includes medical and physical testing, along with gym and outdoor workouts.
Before Liverpool’s 3-0 victory, Slot had indicated that his international players would return on Tuesday, although their early return suggests he anticipated their involvement sooner.
The Dutchman told LFC TV: “On Tuesday all the other players arrive as well, so we want to start then with all the players available.”
After returning to Merseyside immediately following their match against Manchester United, the travelling squad will have some time off before their double-header at Anfield next Sunday.
Alisson Becker, who was eliminated from international competition earlier than the others after Brazil’s Copa America exit on July 7, has had nearly a month off.
Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo, who exited the Euros on July 10, had only a few days less.
Despite having a longer summer break, Alisson is expected to be in good condition and ready for training on Tuesday, as confirmed by Slot.
