Chelsea intensify pursuit of Hellas Verona midfielder Reda Belahyane

0

Chelsea are reportedly intensifying their pursuit of Hellas Verona midfielder Reda Belahyane during the final days of the January transfer window.

The Blues have already made squad adjustments this month, including recalling Trevoh Chalobah from his loan at Crystal Palace to provide defensive cover.

Meanwhile, several players – Renato Veiga, Christopher Nkunku, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Ben Chilwell – are in various stages of leaving Stamford Bridge.

Despite these moves, Chelsea have yet to make any fresh additions to Enzo Maresca’s squad. That could soon change, with 20-year-old Belahyane emerging as a top target.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Chelsea are “pushing hard” to sign Belahyane, viewing him as a long-term prospect and a replacement for Cesare Casadei.

The Italian midfielder has struggled for opportunities this season, featuring mainly in the Conference League group stage, and is now linked with a move to Lazio.

Casadei’s departure appears imminent, even as Chelsea grapple with a midfield injury crisis.

The lack of options was evident during Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Wolves earlier this week, where Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall made his first Premier League start for the club due to the absence of Enzo Fernández and Romeo Lavia, both sidelined with muscle injuries.

Maresca was unable to name a single senior midfielder on the bench for that match.

Reports suggest that Chelsea are ready to proceed with a €15million (£12.7million) deal for Belahyane as soon as Casadei’s transfer is finalised.

Belahyane has impressed in his debut Serie A season, making 15 starts for a struggling Hellas Verona side since joining from OGC Nice last summer.

The young midfielder operates primarily at the base of midfield and has caught the eye with his potential and composure.

In addition to Belahyane, Chelsea remain linked with Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho.

However, with time running out in the window, completing such a complex deal appears increasingly challenging.

Chelsea are reportedly advancing their efforts to sign Alejandro Garnacho in the January transfer window by approaching Manchester United for negotiations, according to multiple sources.

Once a key player under Erik ten Hag, Garnacho has seen his prominence decline since Ruben Amorim took over as United’s head coach.

The 19-year-old has started only four of United’s last 11 Premier League games and has featured in the starting lineup just once since being left out of the squad for last month’s Manchester derby.

Amad Diallo has benefited from Garnacho’s reduced role, frequently combining with Bruno Fernandes in advanced positions behind the striker.

Napoli have also shown interest in Alejandro Garnacho as a potential replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who was sold to Paris Saint-Germain.

However, the Italian club have yet to meet United’s valuation of the player.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have contacted Garnacho’s representatives to assess his interest in a move to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are reportedly encouraged by the player’s openness to a transfer and are now set to open discussions with United.

While Napoli remain interested, they are hedging their bets by exploring a deal for Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi as an alternative target.

Despite their fierce rivalry, Chelsea and Manchester United have a history of facilitating high-profile transfers when mutually beneficial.

Notable examples include Juan Mata’s £37.1 million move to Old Trafford in January 2014 and transfers involving Juan Sebastián Verón, Nemanja Matić, Mason Mount, Jadon Sancho, and Mark Hughes.

If completed, Garnacho’s potential transfer would add another chapter to this unique rivalry while bolstering Chelsea’s attacking depth as they look to strengthen their squad mid-season.

Juventus have confirmed the signing of Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani on a loan deal for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.

Despite Kylian Mbappé’s departure from PSG last summer, Randal Kolo Muani has struggled for playing time and has featured sparingly since September.

Juventus have agreed to an initial loan fee of €1million, with an additional €2million in performance-related bonuses.

The deal also includes additional costs of €2.6million.

Kolo Muani first rose to prominence at Nantes before moving to Eintracht Frankfurt on a free transfer in 2022.

After an impressive breakout season in the Bundesliga, during which he earned a spot in France’s squad for the 2022 World Cup, PSG secured his services for over €80million.

However, his return to France has been underwhelming, with just nine goals in 40 appearances last season and only two so far this campaign.

The 25-year-old’s lack of form had led to tentative interest from Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, West Ham United, and Everton.

Tottenham reportedly made a late offer before Juventus secured the deal.

Meanwhile, speculation continues around the future of current Juventus striker Dušan Vlahović, who has been linked with a potential move to Chelsea.

With Christopher Nkunku potentially available for transfer, Arsenal are also rumored to be monitoring Vlahović’s situation, possibly reigniting their interest from previous transfer windows.

Chelsea have reportedly agreed to loan Renato Veiga to Juventus for the remainder of the season, according to multiple sources.

The versatile 21-year-old defender has been the subject of significant transfer interest this window, with clubs such as Napoli and Borussia Dortmund showing interest.

While Dortmund had reportedly reached a contract agreement with Veiga, Juventus have emerged as the successful suitor.

Chelsea initially set a £29million price tag for a permanent transfer, having signed Veiga from Basel for £11.8million just six months ago.

However, Fabrizio Romano claims the deal with Juventus is a six-month loan arrangement, with the Serie A club paying a €5million (£4.2million) fee.

Veiga is expected to return to Stamford Bridge on June 30, just in time for the expanded Club World Cup knockout stages.

Renato Veiga has impressed Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca this season, making 18 appearances across all competitions.

His versatility has been a key asset, earning praise from the manager.

However, frustrations arose over Maresca’s preference to deploy him as an inverted left-back transitioning into midfield, rather than in his preferred role as a centre-back.

Juventus are reportedly planning to use Veiga in his favored position, addressing their defensive injury crisis following season-ending setbacks for Juan Cabal and Gleison Bremer.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have acted to bolster their squad by recalling Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Crystal Palace.

Chalobah was swiftly reintegrated into the first team, starting against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday.

The Blues are also actively exploring reinforcements in midfield and are competing with Arsenal in the hunt for a new striker as they prepare for the second half of the season.

Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly is a major doubt for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Wolves after sustaining a knee issue.

The 18-year-old picked up the injury during last weekend’s draw against Aston Villa but managed to complete the game.

However, the problem flared up during a training session on Tuesday afternoon, forcing him to leave early.

As a result, Myles Lewis-Skelly missed Arsenal’s midweek victory over Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League.

The youngster has been one of Arsenal’s standout performers this season, transitioning from a relatively unknown academy product to a regular in the starting XI.

His absence would add to Mikel Arteta’s growing injury concerns as the Gunners navigate a busy fixture schedule.

Further updates on Lewis-Skelly’s condition are expected after the scan, but his availability for the Wolves fixture now hangs in the balance.

Arteta said: “I am not sure [if Lewis-Skelly will be fit to face Wolves on Saturday].

“He jarred his knee in the game against Villa and he thought it was okay when he finished the game.

“The next day it wasn’t bad and then yesterday he wasn’t feeling right, and so he started the session and he wasn’t feeling good.

“So, we need some more tests tomorrow. Hopefully it is nothing big, but the games are coming very fast.”

The loan transfer of Kyle Walker to AC Milan is set to be finalised on Thursday after Manchester City agreed to let the defender leave until the end of the season.

The Italian giants will cover the 34-year-old’s £175,000-a-week wages in full during the loan period and hold an option to make the move permanent in the summer.

Kyle Walker has reportedly pre-agreed a two-year contract extension with Milan, which would run until 2027 if the Serie A side activates the purchase option.

The soon-to-be former Man City captain turned down multiple offers, including lucrative proposals from Saudi Arabia, to join the Rossoneri.

Walker’s decision to move to Italy has been linked to efforts to mend his relationship with his wife, Annie Kilner, with whom he shares four children.

However, the move has sparked frustration from his former partner, Lauryn Goodman, who is the mother of his other two children, Kairo, 4, and Kinara, 18 months.

Reports suggest Goodman feels Walker’s decision is “selfish” and shirks his parental responsibilities.

Walker, meanwhile, remains focused on extending his career at the highest level.

The England right-back is determined to cement his place in the national team under new manager Thomas Tuchel.

Currently on 93 caps, Walker has set his sights on reaching 100 appearances for England.

With the 2026 World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States on the horizon, Walker believes his move to Serie A – a league renowned for its defensive expertise – will enhance his chances of maintaining his spot in the national squad.

Manchester United consider improved offer for Lecce’s Patrik Dorgu

Manchester United are weighing up an improved bid for top target Patrik Dorgu after having their initial £23million offer rejected by Lecce.

The 20-year-old has emerged as United manager Ruben Amorim’s priority signing as he looks to strengthen the left-back position – a notable weak spot in his squad.

Luke Shaw remains sidelined with injury, while Tyrell Malacia has fallen out of favour.

Patrik Dorgu, who primarily plays as a left-back but has demonstrated versatility, has impressed with his performances for Serie A side Lecce.

He has already earned four caps for Denmark and has made 22 appearances across all competitions this season, contributing three goals.

However, Lecce are determined to hold out for a higher fee, reportedly valuing Dorgu at around £35 million.

According to the Daily Star, United’s hierarchy is now deliberating whether to meet the Italian club’s asking price.

Amorim is said to be confident that Dorgu would fit seamlessly into his tactical setup, but United will need to act quickly to fend off interest from other clubs tracking the promising youngster.

Should negotiations with Lecce fail, United have identified Benfica’s Alvaro Carreras as a potential alternative.

Amorim, speaking on Wednesday, declined to comment directly on transfer targets but acknowledged the need for defensive reinforcements.

Further discussions between United and Lecce are expected in the coming days as the Premier League giants seek to finalise their plans for the January window.

“As I understand the question, let’s focus on the game and I do’ not want to talk about that, especially before a game. Our focus is that our players are here to play,” he said ahead of facing Rangers on Thursday.

“We need to improve, to win games, to have that feeling of winning is important for us, so lets focus on that today.

“We are more nervous playing at home than away because we lost four games in five so it is getting harder.

“But we can improve and I think if we don’t suffer the first goal like in the fourth minute, I remember others in the 10th minute, 15th minute, then it is really hard to calm down the team. We need the first thing, in my mind, they cannot score.

“We need to score the first one and if we scored the first one that would change [things]. That is it and I think we are really clear that we are anxious playing, especially at home, and we are suffering goals then it is really hard.

“I think it is clear for everybody that it is getting harder to play at Old Trafford.”

Manchester City announce signing of Frankfurt star Omar Marmoush in £65m deal

Manchester City have completed the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush in a deal worth €75million (£65million).

The 25-year-old Egyptian international has been in sensational form this season, recording 20 goals and 13 assists in just 26 appearances for the Bundesliga side.

Marmoush’s performances caught the attention of Pep Guardiola, who sees the versatile attacker as a key addition to his squad.

Marmoush has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with City and is expected to help fill the attacking void left by Julian Alvarez, who is set to join Atletico Madrid this summer.

“This is a day I will never forget,” Marmoush said.

“To sign for Manchester City – one of the best teams in the world – is an amazing feeling. I am delighted, my family are so proud, and we are all very happy to be here in Manchester.

“With Pep, his technical staff and the world-class facilities here, players have everything they need to improve. That was really enticing for me when I had the chance to come here.

“And I cannot deny I also want to win trophies. City have been the most successful club in England for many, many years, so I know I am joining a winning environment and winning culture. I want to learn from the staff and my teammates, and I want to become a valued member of this winning team.

“I really am looking forward to getting going, meeting the other players and showing the Manchester City fans what I can do.”

Director of Football Txiki Begiristain expressed his own delight at Marmoush’s arrival at the Etihad.

“Omar is an accomplished and exciting forward, and I’m delighted he’s joining us,” he said.

“He’s had an outstanding season, and every time we have watched him, he has influenced matches.

“He has all the attributes a top-class attacker requires. He has outstanding pace and awareness, and he is exceptional in front of goal. He can also play a number of different positions, which is a really valuable asset.

“I also have no doubt that working with Pep and the technical staff here at City will see him further develop his superb attacking talent.”

Chelsea handed boost in pursuit of Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho

Chelsea have received a significant boost in their pursuit of Alejandro Garnacho, as Napoli appear to be shifting their focus to alternative transfer targets.

Both Chelsea and Napoli are keen on signing the 20-year-old, who has struggled to adapt to Ruben Amorim’s new 3-4-3 system at Manchester United.

Napoli recently had a bid of approximately £50million plus add-ons for Garnacho rejected, while Chelsea have been closely monitoring the situation.

Napoli are seeking a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who was sold to Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month for around £60 million.

However, Manchester United’s £70million asking price for Alejandro Garnacho appears to be a stumbling block for the Italian club.

According to reports, Napoli have turned their attention to Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi.

It is claimed that discussions between the two clubs are underway, with a potential fee of up to €50million (£42million) being negotiated.

Napoli are also reportedly in talks with Adeyemi’s representatives regarding personal terms.

The 23-year-old forward has made 32 goal contributions in 79 appearances across all competitions for Dortmund since joining the club from Red Bull Salzburg in 2022.

News of Napoli’s move for Adeyemi represents a significant boost for Chelsea, who are now poised to initiate talks with Manchester United over Garnacho.

Adding further intrigue, Garnacho’s agents, Carlos Cambeiro and Quique De Lucas, were spotted attending Chelsea’s 3-1 victory over Wolves at Stamford Bridge on Monday.

When asked about the winger’s future earlier this month, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim acknowledged that Garnacho needs more time to adapt to the tactical demands of his system.

“That is clear,” Amorim said. “He has talent and he needs to learn to play in a different position. He needs to play better inside.

“He improves a lot in the recovering position when he doesn’t have the ball.

“But by doing that, sometimes he’s not in the right place to make transitions like he was in the past.

“I prefer to defend and then build up with all the team to reach the final third. He’s finding the best way to play in this system.

“He’s improving during training and he started the last game against Arsenal.

“Let’s see against Southampton and I think he’s changed the way he sees himself.”

Chelsea have reportedly joined Manchester City in expressing interest in Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz, as the Brazilian’s future in Turin comes under scrutiny.

Luiz, who joined Juventus for £42.4m last summer, has struggled to secure consistent minutes under Massimiliano Allegri.

The former Aston Villa player has been the subject of speculation regarding a Premier League return, with Manchester City and Chelsea both monitoring his situation closely.

Chelsea’s interest is fuelled by injuries to Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia, with the latter potentially sidelined long-term.

As a result, the Blues are exploring options to bolster their midfield and have inquired about a potential loan deal for Luiz, according to The Telegraph.

However, Juventus have made it clear they are only willing to entertain a deal that includes a commitment to a permanent transfer at the end of the season, a condition that has reportedly stalled progress.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are in negotiations with Juventus over a potential move for Portuguese international Renato Veiga.

Juventus director Cristiano Giuntoli recently held talks in London, during which Chelsea’s interest in Douglas Luiz was also conveyed.

Veiga, signed by Chelsea last summer from Basel, has struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge and has attracted interest from both Juventus and Lazio.

Chelsea are reportedly seeking around £20m for a permanent transfer, though Juventus are hesitant due to the high demands.

Lazio are also exploring Veiga as a potential addition, as part of their efforts to sign Cesare Casadei this month.

With multiple clubs in the mix, Chelsea’s midfield reshuffle could lead to significant movement before the transfer window closes.
