Chelsea have announced the signing of defender Aaron Anselmino, who will spend the 2024/25 season on loan at Boca Juniors.
Anselmino, 19, has committed his future to Stamford Bridge with a seven-year contract.
However, he will initially continue his development in his homeland, Argentina, where Chelsea will closely monitor and support his progress.
Anselmino’s journey began in the youth academies of Juventud Unida and Sportivo Realico before he joined Boca Juniors at the age of 12.
On 10th June 2023, he signed his first professional contract with Boca and made his senior debut against Lanús on the same day.
The centre-back has since made ten appearances for Boca’s first team, scoring his first senior goal in April – a decisive winner in a Copa Sudamericana group stage match against Trinidense.
Aaron Anselmino is the latest South American talent to join Chelsea during the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital era.
Other young talents from the continent, such as Kendry Paez, Andrey Santos, Deivid Washington, and Angelo Gabriel, have also been acquired by the club.
In addition, Chelsea have secured a deal for highly-rated Brazilian wonderkid Estevao Willian, who will join next summer.
The deal with Palmeiras is reportedly worth an initial £29.5 million, potentially rising to £51 million if performance-based add-ons are triggered, which could make Estevao the most expensive South American teenager in history.
