Chelsea have received an official bid from Napoli for Romelu Lukaku, bringing the transfer deal closer to completion.
According to Fabrizio Romano via the Daily Briefing, the transfer expert has provided a significant update on Lukaku’s future, suggesting that the Blues are now poised to finalise this crucial sale.
Romano has emphasized that this deal is independent of any negotiations involving Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
Nonetheless, this development is significant for Chelsea, who need to make sales to balance their numerous summer signings.
Napoli will likely be eager to secure Lukaku’s services, given his impressive performances in Serie A with Inter Milan and Roma in recent years.
Additionally, Lukaku’s previous success under Antonio Conte suggests a promising reunion at Napoli could be beneficial for both parties.
Discussing the latest on Lukaku’s departure from Chelsea, Romano said: “The exit of Romelu Lukaku is getting closer for Chelsea.
“They always wanted to sell the player in a separate story from Victor Osimhen, so it’s not going to be a swap deal and Chelsea’s full focus is on selling Lukaku this week.
“Now the deal between Chelsea and Napoli is getting closer – Napoli have presented an official bid to Chelsea, the negotiations are advancing, while Lukaku already has an agreement with Napoli on a three-year contract.
“Antonio Conte is waiting for Lukaku as Napoli need an offensive player.
“They are working hard to get the deal done, there is still some work to do, but this week more contacts will take place between Napoli and Chelsea for Lukaku.
“It could be an important one for Chelsea as it would be a permanent transfer, and it’s expected to come in the advancing days.”
Romelu Lukaku had a successful loan spell in Italy last season, scoring 21 goals and providing four assists in 47 appearances for AS Roma.
However, his parent club, Chelsea, did not enjoy the best start to the current season, suffering a 2-0 defeat to reigning champions Manchester City in their Premier League opener.
Next, Chelsea will face Servette in the first leg of the Europa Conference League play-offs on Thursday night.
