Chelsea transfer stance on Victor Osimhen revealed

Chelsea are awaiting confirmation from Victor Osimhen regarding his willingness to move to Stamford Bridge before advancing discussions with Napoli about his transfer ahead of the window closing, according to The Athletic

Osimhen, who is keen to join Chelsea, is the club’s top target for the summer.

Chelsea hope the 25-year-old Nigerian striker will agree to join them and adapt to their team and incentive-based wage structure.

If Osimhen’s representatives indicate that their client is ready to proceed under these conditions, Chelsea are expected to push for a deal.

Although Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli have considered Osimhen, they are focused on signing Ivan Toney and cannot acquire both players.

Despite being a potential target for Paris Saint-Germain following the confirmation that Kylian Mbappe would be leaving, PSG are not pursuing Osimhen.

Unless unexpected suitors emerge at the last minute, it appears that Chelsea or remaining with Napoli are the only viable options for him.

Chelsea’s new ownership has made efforts to reduce base salaries, opting for contracts with significant performance and success-related bonuses.

The club is reportedly satisfied with head coach Enzo Maresca’s squad but will continue to monitor the market for late opportunities to strengthen further.

Discussions were reportedly underway regarding a potential move for Osimhen from Napoli to Chelsea last month.

Since joining Napoli from Lille in 2020, Osimhen has scored 76 goals in 133 appearances for the Italian club.

He played a crucial role in Napoli’s first Serie A title in 33 years during the 2022-23 season, netting 26 times in 32 league appearances.

Although his goal tally dropped in the 2023-24 season as Napoli finished 10th, 41 points behind champions Inter, he still managed to score 17 goals across all competitions.

Victor Osimhen began his career at Wolfsburg before spending the 2018-19 season on loan at Charleroi and joining Lille on a permanent deal the following season.

He scored 18 goals in his sole campaign at Lille before joining Napoli for a club-record fee of €70 million, potentially rising to €80 million with add-ons.
