The CEO of Anderlecht has suggested that Christian Eriksen wage demands were too high to tempt him away from Manchester United.
Earlier in the transfer window, Anderlecht’s manager, who was previously part of Thomas Frank’s coaching staff at Brentford, explored the possibility of rekindling his working relationship with Eriksen.
The Belgian club was among several teams linked with a move for Eriksen, including his former club Ajax and a number of Turkish clubs.
However, Eriksen remains a Manchester United player.
Last season, Eriksen’s role at United was diminished, resulting in just 12 Premier League starts.
This has fueled speculation that he might seek a move in search of more regular game time.
With only one year remaining on his contract, this summer presented the final opportunity for United to secure a substantial fee for him.
Despite Anderlecht’s interest, with only two days left in the summer transfer window, Eriksen is expected to stay at Old Trafford.
“I myself have never mentioned the name Christian Eriksen, but of course, I know Christian,” Anderlecht’s CEO, Jesper Fredberg told Het Nieuwsblad.
“He is a top player who is still contracted for one year at a top club.
“At the moment, (signing Eriksen) doesn’t seem realistic.
“But if a door suddenly opens, I want to be the first to step in. It’s not just about what Manchester United is asking for, but it will also be about the player’s salary demands in such a case.”
While Eriksen had previously expressed concerns about his limited game time in the Danish press during international duty last season, he seemed more optimistic about his future at Old Trafford in July.
“It depends what is coming and what is going,” Eriksen said.
“But like I said, I’m really happy, my family is settled in Manchester, I’m loving my time with United but like you said, as a player you want to play as much as possible but that’s also about convincing the manager to let you play.
“So I’ll turn that up, try to do my thing and I’ll see where I’m at, but my feeling is I’m very happy at United.
“I still want to get on the pitch, obviously I’m staying the same person if I’m playing or not, trying to help if I can, but I want to be the football guy, not the social guy.”
While Christian Eriksen is settled and content off the pitch in Manchester with his wife and children, he has remained an unused substitute in both Premier League games this season.
Since joining United on a free transfer in 2022, Eriksen has made 72 appearances for the club.
