Christian Eriksen set to leave Manchester United at end of season

Christian Eriksen has confirmed that he is not currently in discussions with Manchester United regarding a contract extension.

The Danish international’s current deal with the Red Devils is set to expire at the end of the season, sparking widespread speculation about his future at Old Trafford.

Reports suggest that Ajax are interested in bringing back the experienced midfielder, with the Dutch club reportedly willing to offer Eriksen a three-year deal, potentially allowing him to end his career in Amsterdam.

Despite recently regaining a spot in United’s starting lineup, the 32-year-old has stated that there have been no negotiations with the 20-time English champions regarding a new contract.

“No, we are not there at the moment [talks about staying put,” Eriksen told Bold.

“I have one year left, and then we can have another conversation next year when you stand in a different place.

Christian Eriksen was widely linked with a summer transfer away from Manchester United, with numerous reports indicating that he was made available for transfer.

However, the Denmark international has stated that the club never communicated any intention for him to leave during the recent transfer window.

“I had no thoughts about moving on, and I didn’t hear from the club that they wanted to sell me or that I had to leave,” Eriksen added.

“I really just felt that the family and I were doing really well.

“If something really exciting came along, or something where I really felt: ‘I want to try this,’ then fair enough, but it wasn’t something that I had to leave.”

Christian Eriksen has made an impressive start to the 2024-25 campaign for Manchester United, featuring in eight matches, scoring three goals, and providing three assists.

His influence on the team has been increasingly evident, with the Red Devils often looking more composed and effective with him in the lineup.

While Eriksen had a challenging season last year, Manchester United’s midfield remains an area in need of improvement, and the Danish playmaker offers much-needed control and creativity in that position.

With Casemiro rumoured to depart next year, there’s a strong case for keeping Eriksen for at least another 12 months.

Despite being one of the older members of the squad, he remains among the club’s most technically gifted players.

In recent performances, Eriksen showcased his playmaking skills by providing two assists in United’s 3-3 Europa League draw with Porto on October 3.

He followed that up by playing the full 90 minutes in the goalless Premier League draw against Aston Villa, further highlighting his importance to the team.
