Erling Haaland closing in on new deal at Manchester City

Erling Haaland is reportedly on the verge of signing a new deal with Manchester City that would make him the club’s highest-paid player, surpassing Kevin De Bruyne.

Currently, De Bruyne is City’s top earner, reportedly earning £425,000 per week.

Haaland’s basic salary is £375,000 per week, already placing him among the highest earners at the club.

However, the structure of Haaland’s contract includes performance-related bonuses, which could potentially raise his weekly earnings to over £850,000.

The new deal could see Haaland earn €24 million (£20.5 million/$27 million) net per season, according to a report by Marca.

There have been rumours linking Haaland with a move to Real Madrid in the past, but the summer acquisition of Kylian Mbappe by Los Blancos might impact those prospects.

While a partnership between Mbappe and Haaland would be highly anticipated, Haaland might instead focus on chasing the Premier League’s top goalscorer record if he commits to a new deal with City.

City manager Pep Guardiola has consistently praised Haaland’s abilities and his crucial role in the team’s success.

This new contract could be a significant gesture from the club, underscoring their long-term reliance on Haaland, regardless of whether Guardiola remains in charge after his contract expires in 2025.

Since joining City, Haaland has enjoyed remarkable success.

In just over two seasons, the 24-year-old has scored 97 goals in 102 appearances, establishing himself as one of the most prolific forwards in European football.

His contributions have led the club to a historic treble in his first season and another Premier League title in his second.

After international duties with Norway, Haaland will return to the Etihad to face Brentford on September 14.
