Liverpool have secured the signing of Federico Chiesa from Juventus on a four-year contract in the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old forward has successfully completed his medical and finalized terms on a long-term deal, and is now set to join the Reds’ squad.
Chiesa, who boasts 51 caps for Italy and was a part of their Euro 2024 squad, will make the move after four seasons and 131 appearances with Juventus.
He told Liverpoolfc.com: “I’m so happy to be a Liverpool player.
“When Richard Hughes called me and he said, ‘Do you want to join Liverpool?’ – and the coach called me – I said yes immediately because I know the history of this club, I know what it represents to the fans.
“So, I’m so happy and I can’t wait to get started.”
Federico Chiesa began his footballing journey in Fiorentina’s youth academy, steadily progressing through the ranks before making his senior debut at 18 in a Serie A match against Juventus at the start of the 2016-17 season.
During his time with La Viola, Chiesa made 153 appearances and scored 34 goals, showcasing his talent and earning a move to Juventus in October 2020.
Initially joining on a two-year loan, the deal was made permanent in May 2022.
Chiesa’s first season in Turin was nothing short of spectacular, culminating in him scoring the decisive goal in the 2021 Coppa Italia final against Atalanta.
Unfortunately, his momentum was halted the following season by an anterior cruciate ligament injury, which sidelined him for nearly 10 months.
Despite this setback, Chiesa bounced back, making his highest number of league appearances (33) in his final season with Juventus.
He found the net 10 times across 37 games in all competitions and added a second Coppa Italia winner’s medal to his collection.
On the international stage, Chiesa was instrumental in Italy’s Euro 2020 triumph, playing in all seven matches, scoring twice, and earning a spot in UEFA’s official Team of the Tournament.
Most recently, Chiesa represented Italy in four matches at Euro 2024 this summer.
Now, as he embarks on a new chapter at Anfield, Chiesa becomes the second signing of the Arne Slot era, following the recent agreement to bring Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia ahead of the 2025-26 season.
The Italy international chose the No.14 shirt after finalizing his transfer to Liverpool from Juventus.
When asked during his first interview with Liverpoolfc.com whether the number holds any special significance for him, Chiesa replied: “Yeah, it has actually.
“It’s the number I’ve been wearing with the national team but it was an easy pick because Liverpool sent me a video and at the end of this video – which was showing my career [and] the goals I scored with Fiorentina and Juventus – it was me with the No.14 shirt on so I said, ‘Ah, it was destined to be!’, so I chose the No.14.”
The No.14 shirt was last worn by former captain Jordan Henderson, who held it for 12 seasons before his departure in 2023.
This iconic number has also been worn by club legends such as Xabi Alonso, Milan Jovanovic, Vegard Heggem, Neil Ruddock, and Jan Molby.
Federico Chiesa has already been imagining the moment he will walk out to ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ at Anfield as a Liverpool player.
That dream is about to become a reality for the Italian forward, who has completed his transfer to the Reds from Juventus.
As Chiesa flew into Merseyside to finalize the move, he caught a glimpse of the club’s iconic stadium and fittingly marked the occasion.
During his first interview as a Red, the new No.14 explained to Liverpoolfc.com: “And I just want to say something that stuck to my mind when I was about to land [in] the aeroplane.
“I saw Anfield and as soon as I saw Anfield I said to my wife, ‘Put the song on – You’ll Never Walk Alone – because I want to imagine myself playing there and hearing the chant of the fans.’ It was just a fun bit.”
Asked how it will feel when he does that for real, Chiesa replied: “I will have shivers and it will be so emotional for me and for my family.”
