Manchester United have officially confirmed Jadon Sancho transfer to Chelsea, nearly 20 hours after the summer transfer window closed on Friday.
The 24-year-old has joined the Blues on loan for the 2024/25 season, with an obligation for Chelsea to make the move permanent.
The London club will pay up to £25 million to secure Sancho’s services beyond the loan period.
United originally signed Sancho three years ago for a £73 million fee from Borussia Dortmund.
During the summer, Sancho attracted interest from Juventus, but he ultimately favored a move to west London over staying at Old Trafford.
He was notably absent from United’s squads for their first two Premier League matches of the season.
In a brief statement, Manchester United confirmed Sancho’s departure, saying: “Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho has joined Chelsea on loan for the remainder of the season.
“The 24-year-old England international sealed his move late on transfer deadline day, with the announcement coming on Saturday evening.
“Sancho returned to United earlier this summer following a half-season loan spell at former club Borussia Dortmund in Germany. He will now link up with Enzo Maresca’s Blues squad at Stamford Bridge.
“We wish Jadon good luck for the campaign to come.”
Jadon Sancho said: “I’m really excited to be here. London is where I grew up and I’m happy to be back.
“The manager spoke to me about the project and, for a young player, it’s exciting.
“Hopefully I can bring goals and assists to the Bridge.”
He added: “They’re signing me for a reason and to contribute to the team, and I’m ready to do that.
“I enjoy his style of play.
“The wingers when they get on the ball, he loves them to go one versus one and be direct.
“We play a lot of one-twos with the 10s and the striker combination plays.
“It’s very attractive and it’s a style that I play.
“I know Tosin and Cole Palmer – he was younger than me when I was at City.
“I haven’t had a chance to speak to them yet, but I’m sure I will soon.
“They’re going to be looking out for me, I’m sure.
‘I want to bring goals and assists.
“I’m a skilful player and I want to bring excitement to the Bridge.
“Hopefully, it will turn out well.”
