Liverpool defender Luke Chambers has rejoined Wigan Athletic on loan for the 2024-25 season.
At just 20 years old, Chambers will continue his development with the League One side after a promising stint there last season.
Having made 18 appearances for Wigan following his move in January and featured four times for Liverpool’s senior team, this loan will offer him more valuable first-team experience.
He’ll be alongside Calvin Ramsay, who also joined Wigan on loan recently.
Luke Chambers has indeed had a remarkable start to his professional career.
Despite his youth, his achievements, such as winning the U19 European Championship with England and catching the eye of Jürgen Klopp, highlight his potential.
His versatility, being able to play both as a left-back and left centre-back, and his impact at Wigan, including winning the Player of the Month award and scoring his first professional goal, showcase his growing influence on the pitch.
His strong connection with Wigan’s players, staff, and supporters seems to have played a key role in his decision to return on loan.
After linking up with Latics this time on a season-long loan, Luke Chambers said:
“I am really looking forward to getting started.
“I’ve spoken to the Manager a lot and the style of football that we play is the best step for my development.
“I love everything about the Club – the fans, my teammates, the Manager and the backroom staff- and it was an easy choice.
“It’s a really exciting project for the season, and hopefully, we can push on for promotion.”
First-Team Manager, Shaun Maloney said:
“We are really pleased that Luke has returned to our Football Club.
“Luke was outstanding for us last season, and we’ve worked very hard over the summer to bring him back for the upcoming campaign.
“He is an extremely talented player, who already understands the values of our Club, and has bought into our project.
“I am looking forward to working with Luke, and helping him continue to develop.”
Sporting Director, Gregor Rioch added:
“Bringing back Luke was a big priority for us this summer.
“We all know the quality that he possesses, and he will be an important player for us in the upcoming season.
“He is a popular member of our squad, and I wish him all the success with our Football Club.”
