Liverpool planning to open Mohamed Salah talks

Liverpool are set to initiate contract talks with forward Mohamed Salah “soon,” according to Football Insider.

This development comes after Salah made a surprising on-air statement following Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

During an interview with Sky Sports, Salah revealed that this could be his “last season” at the club, expressing frustration that “nobody has talked to me” about a new deal.

The 32-year-old said: “I had a good summer and had a long time to myself to try to stay positive because as you know it’s my last year at the club.

“I just want to enjoy it and I don’t want to think about it.

“I feel like I’m free to play football and then we’ll see what happens next year.”

He continued: “Coming into the game, I said it could be the last time [I play here with Liverpool].

“No-one at the club has spoken to me about contracts, so I’m just like, ‘OK, I’m playing my last season’ and see what happens at the end of the season.

“So far, we don’t know with which club, but so far yeah my last game here with Liverpool. It’s not up to me but nobody talk to me about a contract with the club.

“We’ll see.”

Arne Slot meanwhile, remained cautious, avoiding speculation about “a lot of ‘ifs’” concerning the player’s future.

“It’s a lot of ‘if’, but at this moment he’s one of ours and I’m really, really happy with him being one of ours. He plays really well,” he told reporters.

“I don’t talk about contracts from players, but I can talk for hours about how Mo played today.

“But are you interested in that?

“He was impressive, like the first two games as well, but if we talk about an individual, you don’t do justice to all the other ones.

“I think today you saw a real good team performance, playing out from the back, high press, midfield that kept on running.

“So of course, all the attention goes to Mo and to Lucho, but that doesn’t do justice to the other nine and the ones that came in.”

Salah has publicly addressed his future at Anfield for the first time, increasing the pressure on Liverpool’s management as his current contract is set to expire in June 2025.

Football Insider claims that the situation is poised for a new development, with negotiations between Salah and the club expected to commence within weeks.

Liverpool’s focus have recently been on integrating new manager Slot and bolstering their recruitment team with key additions, including Richard Hughes and the returning Michael Edwards.

With the transfer window closing on August 30, Liverpool are now turning its attention to securing Salah’s future.

The winger has started the 2024-25 campaign in electrifying form, registering three goals and three assists in just three Premier League matches.

Salah has been crucial to Liverpool’s perfect start this season.

He remains a long-term target for top Saudi Arabian clubs, which had a £150 million offer for him rejected in the summer of 2023.

The former Chelsea and Roma star is currently the 10th-highest scorer in Premier League history with 160 goals, closing in on Jermain Defoe (162) and Robbie Fowler (163).
