Liverpool remain in negotiations to extend contracts of Salah, Van Dijk and Alexander Arnold

Liverpool are engaged in open and ongoing negotiations with the representatives of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold regarding new contracts, as all three stars have entered the final year of their current deals at Anfield.

The situation surrounding these players has sparked considerable discussion, especially with Alexander-Arnold heavily linked to a move to Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, speculation persists that this might be Salah’s final season with Liverpool, amid reported interest from Saudi Arabian clubs.

Despite Jurgen Klopp’s departure at the end of last season, the trio remains open to extending their stays on Merseyside.

According to Liverpool Echo’s Ian Doyle, “Liverpool remain in negotiations with representatives of the trio in an attempt to extend their current stays, while on the pitch all three players showing no signs of being distracted by the ongoing impasse.

“Indeed, each has appeared reinvigorated by the impact of new head coach Arne Slot, Van Dijk in particular playing arguably his best football since his serious knee injury three years ago.”

Liverpool have made a strong start to the 2024/25 campaign, with Slot’s side currently sitting at the top of the Premier League, boasting six wins from seven matches, along with victories in the Champions League and Carabao Cup.

While the players may choose to wait a bit longer to assess the season’s progression before making decisions about their futures, the Premier League club is keen to resolve these contract talks sooner rather than later.

Elsewhere, the Reds are close to securing long-term contracts for defenders Ibrahima Konate and Jarell Quansah, with negotiations well underway for both players.

It is believed that Quansah has agreed a five-year contract extension while preliminary discussions have started with Konate.

The 25-year-old has re-established himself as a key figure alongside Virgil van Dijk, forming Liverpool’s first-choice centre-back pairing.

His new deal would secure his prime years at Anfield, continuing his impressive form this season.

Liverpool’s defensive solidity has been crucial to their strong start under new manager Arne Slot.

The team has conceded just two Premier League goals in their opening seven matches and only four across 10 games in all competitions.
