Manchester United have successfully signed defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich.
De Ligt’s transfer is valued at €50 million (£42.7 million), comprising an initial €45 million (£38.4 million) with an additional €5 million (£4.3 million) in potential add-ons.
The 24-year-old Netherlands international is expected to be available for United’s Premier League opener against Fulham on Friday, having been registered before the midday deadline on Thursday.
De Ligt, who has spent the last two seasons at Bayern Munich after moving from Juventus, made 73 appearances and scored five goals for the German champions.
He previously played under Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax, where they won the Eredivisie title in 2019.
Meanwhile, right-back Noussair Mazraoui joins United after entering the final two years of his contract with Bayern.
The Moroccan international had been close to a £16.5 million move to West Ham, but the deal fell through, paving the way for his switch to Old Trafford.
Following the acquisitions of De Ligt and Mazraoui, Manchester United are now expected to shift their focus to strengthening their midfield.
However, any further signings will depend on the club’s budget and player valuations.
Negotiations remain ongoing with Paris Saint-Germain over Manuel Ugarte, though the French club have yet to reduce their asking price.
United are willing to be patient with just over two weeks remaining in the transfer window, aware that PSG may eventually need to offload players, and that Ugarte is eager for a move to Old Trafford.
Personal terms for any potential deal are not expected to be an obstacle.
United are also exploring other midfield options, with discussions continuing over Burnley’s Sander Berge, who missed Monday’s win over Luton due to a minor injury.
Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana and Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat remain on the club’s radar as well.
Given budget constraints, Manchester United may need to sell players to fund additional signings.
No further bids have been received for Scott McTominay, and Casemiro is now expected to stay with the club.
