How much Manchester United will pay for PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte as he nears Premier League move

Manuel Ugarte is set to undergo a medical today (August 27) as he prepares to complete a move to Manchester United, according to The Athletic.

The transfer is valued at €50 million (£42.3 million), with an additional €10 million in potential performance-related add-ons.

Paris Saint-Germain initially sought a fixed fee for the Uruguay international.

However, Manchester United’s offer includes €10 million in add-ons tied to Ugarte’s performances at Old Trafford.

Additionally, the agreement features a 10 percent sell-on clause for PSG.

United’s pursuit of the PSG midfielder comes as the club finalizes the sale of Scott McTominay to Napoli.

The Serie A side has agreed to a fee of approximately €30 million (£25.4 million) for the Scotland international.

Manchester United had been interested in Ugarte but hesitated to meet PSG’s initial asking price, which was around €60 million (£51.4 million) – the amount PSG paid to acquire him from Sporting Lisbon in 2023.

United view this as an attractive deal for what they consider one of the best young midfielders in the game, who was named to the team of the tournament for his performances with Uruguay in this summer’s Copa America.

The club had explored other options, including Burnley midfielder Sander Berge, who has since joined Fulham.

Additionally, a deal to re-sign Sofyan Amrabat was also considered.

Manuel Ugarte appeared in 37 matches across all competitions for Luis Enrique’s PSG during his debut season, contributing to their Ligue 1 title, Coupe de France victory, and Trophee des Champions win.

Despite making only 21 league starts, Ugarte was a regular in the Champions League group stage, starting five of the six matches.

However, he did not feature in the starting line-up for any of the knockout stage games.

He began his career at Uruguayan club Fénix before moving to Portugal’s Famalicão in December 2020 and subsequently joining Sporting CP in the summer of 2021.

If he moves to Old Trafford, he will become United’s fifth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui.

United began the new Premier League season with a 1-0 victory over Fulham but suffered a 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.
