Middlesbrough are expected to sign Liverpool teenager Ben Doak, who has become a target as of Friday, according to The Times’ Paul Joyce.
The 18-year-old winger had attracted significant interest from several Championship clubs, including Hull City.
However, Middlesbrough’s compelling pitch, combined with their strong managerial setup under Michael Carrick, convinced both the player and Liverpool that Boro is the ideal environment for his continued development.
Liverpool approved the loan move for Doak following their acquisition of Federico Chiesa from Juventus for an initial fee of £10 million.
Doak is eager to secure regular playing time this season after a challenging campaign plagued by injuries.
He made five appearances for Liverpool in the first half of the 2023-24 season, stepping in for Mohamed Salah. However, he was sidelined by a knee injury that required surgery.
Doak, who joined Liverpool from Celtic in 2022, worked hard to recover and earned a call-up to the Scotland squad for Euro 2024.
Unfortunately, he missed the tournament in Germany due to another fitness setback.
Meanwhile, Josh Coburn’s loan move to Millwall is set to be finalised this afternoon.
The striker will spend the entire season at The Den on a straight loan with no option to buy.
In other news, Ipswich Town had shown interest in Emmanuel Latte Lath, but boss Kieran McKenna has now suggested that signing the striker today is “less likely than likely.”
Middlesbrough have been firm about retaining their top scorer from last season and has no intention of letting him go before tonight’s deadline.
The club’s stance on holding onto their key players remains unchanged as the transfer window draws to a close.
Additionally, The Athletic reports that Ipswich have revived talks to sign Armando Broja.
Although the deal appeared to have collapsed on Thursday, it may now be back in play.
McKenna addressed Ipswich’s pursuit of a centre-forward today: “It’s less likely than likely, but it’s not impossible.
“It’s (forward) an area we have looked at and the club is continuing to work hard.
“If it’s not possible then we’ll progress with the squad we have.
“I’m happy with where we’re at.
“We have tried to strengthen in the striker position but if we don’t manage to, then we have George Hirst coming back from injury and we have three forwards that can all have an impact at this level.”
