Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refuses to rule out second stint as Man United manager

Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has expressed a strong desire to return to Old Trafford, stating he would “say yes every day of the week” if offered the managerial position again.

Since his dismissal in November 2021, Solskjaer has been out of management after nearly three years in charge at United.

He initially took over as interim manager in December 2018 following José Mourinho’s sacking and was later appointed permanently after a promising streak of results.

During his tenure, Solskjaer guided United to a second-place finish behind Manchester City in the pandemic-affected 2020-21 season.

However, he failed to secure any silverware, and his time at the helm ended after a disappointing run of form, which included six defeats in 11 matches and a humiliating 5-0 home loss to Liverpool.

With current manager Erik ten Hag facing increasing pressure after securing just three wins in eight games this season, Solskjaer has indicated he wouldn’t rule out a return if the club were to reach out

“If the family [United] asks, I would say yes every day of the week,” Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said in a Q&A at the Oslo Business Forum.

“It feels wrong to talk about jobs that other people have now, but I would say yes, of course.”

Since departing Manchester United three years ago, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been serving as a technical observer for UEFA.

The former Norway international played a significant role in compiling the Euro 2024 technical report after overseeing the tournament in Germany this summer.

Solskjaer has been linked with potential managerial roles at clubs in Turkey and the Middle East.

However, with Norway’s current coach, Stale Solbakken, expected to step down following the country’s 2026 World Cup campaign, Solskjaer expressed his eagerness to take on the national team position when it becomes available.

“I am a proud Norwegian, and of course if the question arises, when Ståle decides to give up, I will happily engage in discussions,” Solskjaer said.

“I am a proud Norwegian and proud of where I come from.”
