PSG launch bid to sign soon-to-be free agent Mohamed Salah

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have reportedly made a move to sign Mohamed Salah, with the Liverpool forward’s contract set to expire next summer.

Salah will be free to negotiate with foreign clubs from the start of the January transfer window.

While many expected Saudi Arabian clubs to lead the race for the Egyptian star, the French giants have now emerged as strong contenders.

Last summer, Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad had a £150 million bid for Salah rejected by Liverpool, but the Reds have yet to open talks over a new deal with their star attacker.

This contract uncertainty has opened the door for PSG to swoop in.

The Parisians, who are still reeling from their defeat to Arsenal in midweek, are reportedly eager to secure Salah’s services.

According to The Sun, PSG are prepared to offer the 32-year-old a lucrative three-year deal with wages that would dwarf what Liverpool can offer.

Salah is said to prefer continuing at the top level in European football, and a move to Saudi Arabia is seen as a step down in competition.

PSG, under pressure following the departure of Kylian Mbappe and facing increasing unrest after their defeat to the Gunners, are keen to add a marquee player to their squad.

Their Qatari owners, known for their ambition, may view Salah as the ideal star to fill the void left by Mbappe.

Club legend Thierry Henry has criticised PSG’s lack of a superstar figure to lead the team, adding further urgency to their pursuit of Salah.

He told CBS Sports: “They don’t have that match-winner, that game winner, that they had in the past.

“Yes the team is a bit more well-balanced, but in and around the box, we didn’t see much.

“You don’t obviously have Mbappé.

“They had the ball, a lot of possession but that is about it.

“That wasn’t enough.”

Paris Saint-Germain are eager to reignite their pursuit of Champions League glory and have identified Mohamed Salah as the key player to help them clear the final hurdle.

Mohamed Salah has started the season in scintillating form, netting five goals in nine appearances across all competitions.

His latest goal came on Wednesday, when Liverpool narrowly defeated Bologna in the Champions League.

With that strike, Salah became the first Liverpool player to score in five consecutive European Cup matches at Anfield, earning high praise from manager Arne Slot.

“What can I say about Mo? What you saw today is what you get,” Slot said.

“If you bring him often enough in positions like this, he can score a goal.

“He had a great assist as well. I think before Wolves, Mo played three games without scoring a goal.

“In football it can happen that sometimes in three games you score one or you don’t score.

“But these players, like Mo, like Darwin, like all the others, they will always score their goals if you just keep playing them – the thing is, I can’t play them all!

“But it’s good to have them and they will always score their goals.

“Mo has done really well today and I am happy with what he does at the moment.

“I am not looking forward to next season as long as we have six group games to play and hopefully many others to come afterwards.”
