Real Madrid are reportedly preparing to initiate discussions regarding a potential transfer for Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold as he approaches the final months of his contract.
The England international has been a standout player for the Reds for several years, emerging as one of the academy’s greatest success stories.
However, it remains uncertain whether he will continue his career at Liverpool for much longer.
Alexander-Arnold’s current contract at Anfield expires at the end of this season
This allows him to begin talks with foreign clubs from January onwards and potentially agree to a free transfer for the summer of 2025.
According to journalist Ekrem Konur, Real Madrid are planning to explore the possibility of bringing Alexander-Arnold to the Bernabeu, although the deal is expected to be challenging.
Ekrem Konur posted on X: “Real Madrid are planning to speak to Liverpool’s right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold in order to sign him.
“The 25-year-old player’s contract expires at the end of the season, increasing the Spanish giant’s chances of acquiring him without a transfer fee.
“However, Liverpool is in ongoing negotiations to extend the English player’s contract, aiming to keep him at Anfield for the foreseeable future.
“Despite Real Madrid’s interest, the transfer is expected to be challenging.”
As one of the top full-backs in the game, it is not surprising that he is attracting significant interest.
However, Fabrizio Romano has also mentioned in his Daily Briefing column that Liverpool will remain Alexander-Arnold’s primary choice.
While no decision has been made yet, it suggests that the 25-year-old might lean towards staying with Liverpool, provided the club offers a competitive financial package and convinces him of their future plans.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has enjoyed considerable success at Liverpool, winning the Premier League and the Champions League.
Yet, he has also faced disappointment, losing two Champions League finals and narrowly missing out on the Premier League title twice to Manchester City.
At this stage in his career, Alexander-Arnold might feel he has accomplished all he can at Liverpool, making a new challenge at a prestigious European club like Real Madrid an enticing prospect.
