Ryan Gravenberch: I had a good time off, but I am happy to be back

The Dutch international has returned after his three week holiday following his country’s semi final elimination at the Euro 2024 and joined his colleagues earlier this week in the US.

Gravenberch would be looking forward to a first taste of preseason action under Arne Slot when Liverpool face Manchester United in their final game on the US tour at the Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina.

After being eased back into training in the heat in America, the Dutchman spoke to Liverpoolfc.com about his joy to be back with the boys and his personal ambitions for the upcoming season. He told our reporters, “Happy to be back, happy to be here and happy to see the faces again.

“Honestly, I had a good, I think, almost three weeks off and I enjoyed it a lot – mentally good again, not thinking a lot about football [and] just enjoying the holidays. Now we’re here again.                                                      “Hopefully I get some minutes and I can play again.”

Gravenberch also had some praise for his new boss, Arne Slot, despite only being in training for a couple of days. He remarked, “Really good impressions,” Gravenberch said of his compatriot. “He really wants to play football and me personally as well.                                                                                                                                  “So, happy that he’s here and happy that we can train and play.”

The 22-year-old is looking to improve on his debut campaign and further foster good relationship with his teammates after finding himself as part of a new midfield overhaul by the Reds last season. Gravenberch followed Alexis MacAllister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo as new arrivals at the club.

He finished: “For sure. They are really good players, so I’m happy that I can play with them again.

“I’m really looking forward to it [and] also we want to play football.”
