Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is reportedly in negotiations to become England’s next national coach following the Three Lions’ recent loss to Greece.
According to Bild journalist Christian Falk, Tuchel is a leading candidate for the England managerial position.
This news comes just a day after the team, currently managed by interim boss Lee Carsley, fell to a 2-1 defeat against Greece in the Nations League.
Following the match, Carsley expressed uncertainty about his future, stating he would “hopefully” return to managing the under-21s.
He added that the loss to Greece would have “almost no impact” on his chances of securing the senior role permanently.
Tuchel has previously been linked with the England job, which Gareth Southgate held successfully for nearly eight years. Whether the Football Association will pursue Tuchel remains to be seen.
The German coach, who is also rumored to be in contention for the Manchester United position amid Erik ten Hag’s struggles at Old Trafford, is seeking new opportunities after leaving Bayern Munich at the end of last season.
Throughout his managerial career, Thomas Tuchel has won the Champions League with Chelsea and secured multiple trophies at Paris Saint-Germain, among other accolades.
As speculation surrounds Carsley’s future and the national team, England will return to Nations League action on Sunday night, travelling to Finland for their fourth match in League B Group 2.
