Victor Osimhen has reportedly been excluded from Napoli’s squad list for the 2024-25 season after a proposed move to Chelsea on deadline day fell through.
The Nigerian striker was heavily linked with a transfer to Stamford Bridge last Friday.
However, despite Chelsea’s late efforts to secure his signing, they were unable to finalize the deal in time.
As a result, Osimhen remains a Napoli player for now, but he has not featured for the Italian club in the early weeks of the season and is reportedly not part of Antonio Conte’s plans.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Osimhen’s exclusion from Napoli’s squad is due to a ‘broken’ relationship between the player and the club.
In addition to Osimhen, his teammate Mario Rui has also been omitted from the squad and is seeking a move away from Napoli.
Osimhen had attracted interest from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli, who reached an agreement with Napoli on Friday morning for the forward.
However, Osimhen did not approve the move, leading Al-Ahli to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford instead.
The Saudi transfer window remains open, so Al-Ahli or another club could potentially revive their interest in Osimhen.
Currently, Victor Osimhen finds himself in limbo, as Napoli has made it clear that he is not part of their plans.
The club recently signed Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea for £38 million, with the Belgian striker expected to take on a leading role in Conte’s team.
Lukaku is seen as Osimhen’s replacement, with the Nigerian striker being sidelined by Napoli just over a year after helping them win the Serie A title.
Napoli finished 10th in the league last season, missing out on European competition, and Osimhen will not be involved in their efforts to bounce back this season.
