Erling Haaland scores hat-trick as Manchester City end US tour with Chelsea victory
Manchester City beat Chelsea 4-2 in Columbus, Ohio
Manchester City concluded their pre-season tour of the United States with an entertaining 4-2 victory over Chelsea before a crowd of 71,280 in Columbus, Ohio.
Erling Haaland was the standout performer, netting a hat-trick – two of his goals coming within the first five minutes of the match.
Oscar Bobb also added to the scoreline, securing a well-deserved win for Pep Guardiola’s side in their final friendly ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
Chelsea managed to pull one back through former City player Raheem Sterling just before the hour mark, and Noni Madueke added a second late in the game.
However, these goals did little to diminish City’s convincing performance.
Stefan Ortega Moreno made two impressive saves, while James McAtee struck the post, hinting at the potential for an even greater scoreline.
The 4-2 victory sets Manchester City up nicely for next Saturday’s Community Shield final against Manchester United.
