Four key Arsenal players return to pre-season training ahead of Bayer Leverkusen clash

Arsenal will play Bayer Leverkusen in their next pre-season friendly on Wednesday

As Arsenal prepare to return to Emirates Stadium for Wednesday’s penultimate pre-season match against Bayer Leverkusen, more of Mikel Arteta’s first-team squad have been making their way back to the Sobha Realty Training Centre.

After competing in Euro 2024, Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Aaron Ramsdale, and William Saliba have all been spotted as they begin their pre-season training at the club.

The Gunners have had a busy pre-season so far, including two matches in the United States.

They defeated Manchester United 2-1 in Los Angeles, with goals from Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli, but suffered a 2-1 defeat against Liverpool.

Having returned to London, Arsenal continued their pre-season preparations as Arteta welcomed back key players ahead of the third official friendly.

After David Raya rejoined the squad following Spain’s Euro 2024 victory on Friday, Saka, Rice, and Saliba also resumed pre-season training and could be available for the Leverkusen match on Wednesday.

Saka and Rice represented England, while Saliba impressed for France at the tournament.

If the trio do not feature against Leverkusen, they will have one final opportunity to gain match fitness before the Premier League season starts.

Arsenal’s final pre-season match is against Lyon next Sunday, less than six days before their Premier League opener against Wolves.

Arsenal aim to build on a strong campaign despite narrowly missing out on the Premier League title to Manchester City.

This summer, the Gunners have bolstered their squad in an effort to challenge City once again.

David Raya’s loan move has been made permanent for £27 million from Brentford, and Riccardo Calafiori has been signed from Bologna for £42 million.
