Alisson Becker has commenced pre-season training with Liverpool, marking the first time new head coach Arne Slot will have a full squad available on Tuesday, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Alisson was the last of Liverpool’s 14 players who participated in the European Championships or Copa America earlier this summer to return.
On Sunday, England’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez, the Netherlands’ Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo, Uruguay’s Darwin Núñez, and Colombia’s Luis Díaz all resumed training at the AXA Training Centre.
With the 28-man squad that toured the United States – later joined by Diogo Jota, Ibrahima Konaté, Ryan Gravenberch, and Alexis Mac Allister – back in England, Slot and his coaching staff will finally have a full complement of players for Tuesday’s session.
Some of the younger players will return to the under-21 and U18 Academy squads to begin preparations for their respective seasons.
Liverpool’s Premier League 2 campaign kicks off at home against Manchester City on August 17, while the U18 Premier League North starts the same day at Derby County.
Alisson, who reached the quarter-finals of the Copa America with Brazil, had been strongly linked with a move to Saudi Arabia earlier in the summer.
However, interest has since cooled as the Saudi Pro League has shifted focus to other goalkeeping targets.
The 31-year-old, who still has three years remaining on his contract, has shown no desire to leave, and Liverpool have no intention of parting with their first-choice goalkeeper.
In Alisson’s absence, Caoimhin Kelleher and Vítězslav Jaroš impressed during Liverpool’s successful US tour, which included wins over Real Betis, Arsenal, and a 3-0 victory against Manchester United.
Liverpool will conclude their pre-season with a friendly against Sevilla at Anfield on Sunday.
Later that day, they will also play a behind-closed-doors friendly against Las Palmas at the stadium.
Slot will make his competitive debut as Liverpool’s manager on August 17, when the Reds face promoted Ipswich Town in their Premier League opener.
