Liverpool player fulfils one of his dreams as Reds beat Man United 3-0
LiverpoolFC defender shares his excitement at scoring and dedicating the goal to his brother's baby
Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas has spoken about his delight at scoring against Manchester United in the Reds recent 3-0 in South Carolina. The Greek defender has endured a stop-start career at Liverpool since he arrived three years ago having to compete with Scottish captain Andy Robertson.
However, he has often shown he is more than capable of being a regular left back, having performed well in a run of games (in the absence of Robertson) until his shoulder injury against Arsenal last season.
Tsimikas was on hand to slot home the third goal from a rebound after Andre Onana parried Diogo Jota’s first-time effort after a fine team play down the right by Liverpool.
He told Liverpoolfc.com after the game, “I think one of my dreams came through [to score for this club in this jersey] against Man United.
Yes, of course, it [the goal] was first of all to him and the baby, and for one loss I had two years ago bud sadly I didn’t score before that so I’m really happy to score this goal.”
Speaking about confidence in the team, he said, “The way we play, everybody has confidence – I think that is the result of the good hard work we did with our new manager, new ideas so we have to keep up, really work hard and do what exactly we can and better.”
Tsimikas has been one of the many beneficiaries of this preseason tour of the US with first-choice left-back Andy Robertson missing out due to an injury he’s been nursing. The Greece international has featured in all three games, starting each of them and forming a solid partnership with Fabio Carvalho on the left flank.
He spoke about the benefits of going to the US and playing infront of the incredible support there in the States. He said “It’s always happy when we travel abroad, to see all the Liverpool fans around the world, singing for our team. We are more than happy and we thank them a lot.”
Kostas Tsimikas will be hoping his performances in the last 3 weeks have impressed new head coach Arne Slot, as the boss looks to pick his first team for the Premier League opener in Ipswich Town. And with Roberston still yet to return to training, the no.21 is most likely to start at left come on August 17.
