The injury occurred in the final 30 minutes of the Red Devils’ 2-1 defeat to the Gunners in Los Angeles.

This was only Yoro’s second appearance for the club.

United’s statement read: “Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has today had a successful surgery on his foot injury.

“Our summer signing from Lille sustained the injury during the team’s recent friendly match against Arsenal in Los Angeles, USA.

“Yoro’s rehabilitation starts now and we look forward to the 18-year-old returning to fitness in around three months.”

Erik ten Hag’s side secured the signature of Yoro last month, outbidding Real Madrid with a deal worth up to £58.7 million.

The central defender, who joined from Lille, has signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford.

Yoro is eager to make a strong start to his Premier League career, having been impressed by the club’s ambitious project.

“Signing for a club with the stature and ambition of Manchester United so early in my career is an incredible honour,” he said.

“Since my first conversations with the club, they set out a clear plan for how I can develop in Manchester as part of this exciting project, and showed a lot of care for me and my family.

“I know about the history of young players at Manchester United and feel it can be the perfect place to reach my potential and achieve my ambitions, together with my new teammates.

“I cannot wait to get started.”

Man United were actively seeking a new defender and are now facing the risk of a stretched backline in the early weeks of the season.

With Yoro sidelined until at least November, securing a target like Matthijs de Ligt could become crucial.

However, Ten Hag has indicated that the club’s transfer strategy will remain unchanged, despite also dealing with an injury to Rasmus Højlund.

“No. This will not change anything,” he said.

“We have a plan and we stick to the plan – and we will execute the plan, how we have that in our minds.”
