Manchester United transfer stance on PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte emerges
Manuel Ugarte has been linked with a move to Old Trafford
Manchester United have decided to shift their focus away from pursuing Manuel Ugarte as their new midfielder and are now considering other candidates, according to The Athletic.
Initially, United explored the possibility of signing Ugarte, but they are unwilling to meet Paris Saint-Germain’s asking price, which is around €60 million (£51.4 million) – the fee PSG paid to sign him from Sporting Lisbon in 2023.
The two clubs have a significant gap in their valuations of the Uruguay international.
As a result, United are currently exploring other options.
The possibility of reopening negotiations remains only if PSG lowers their demands, but no progress has been made so far.
At United, the stance is to pay only what they consider to be the correct fee for each transfer target, ensuring that negotiations do not extend until the end of the transfer window.
Consequently, discussions between the Premier League and Ligue 1 counterparts have cooled.
However, PSG remain unconcerned due to the significant interest in the 23-year-old from other suitors.
In his debut season at PSG, Ugarte made 37 appearances across all competitions under Luis Enrique, contributing to the team’s triumph in Ligue 1, the Coupe de France, and the Trophée des Champions.
Despite his contributions, Ugarte started just 21 league matches for PSG.
While he started five of the club’s six Champions League group stage matches, he was not included in the starting lineup for any of their six knockout matches.
Ugarte started his playing career at Uruguayan club Fénix before joining Famalicão in Portugal in December 2020, and then to Sporting in the summer of 2021.
