Andre Onana is set to bring a more adventurous style to Manchester United’s goalkeeping this season.

Under Erik ten Hag’s new tactics, which emphasize playing out from the back, Onana will be expected to take more risks.

The Cameroonian keeper, who has been working closely with goalkeeping coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar during pre-season, is eager to showcase his skills with his feet, even if it might make fans a bit nervous at times.

This approach could add an exciting dimension to United’s play but will also require solid decision-making to balance risk and reward.

A jovial Onana said: “I think it’s what you’re gonna see this season because I will take a lot of risks.

“I can tell you in advance already!

“Be prepared because it’s gonna be this season, trust me!

“I will enjoy it even more when this season starts.”

Is it truly wise to take risks after a season where United might have won the FA Cup but finished at a historic low of eighth in the Premier League?

Onana said: “Of course, because the best team in the world takes risks.

“Building from the back, recognise things, situations, when the opponent jumps one against one, or when they press with three or with four.

“So for me it’s important to recognise those kind of things and make the best decision for the team.

“I will take a lot of responsibility and I think my back is huge to carry it all.

“I think it’s gonna be nice this season.”

Onana is quickly becoming a fan favourite after a challenging start to his United career.

He joined United from Inter Milan for £47.2 million, having just played in the Champions League final, which Manchester City won 1-0.

His move to ld Trafford reunited him with his former Ajax coach, Erik ten Hag.

However, his transition was not without difficulties, as several high-profile blunders left United fans questioning the decision to replace David De Gea with him.

Onana admitted: “It’s not always easy to settle in a new country, a new league and new people around but my teammates helped me a lot.

“Being a player for Manchester United, when you don’t win, it’s fair to receive criticism because at the end of the day, it’s part of the job.

“We are here for it and me coming here as the best goalkeeper in the world, it’s normal they were tough on me because they expect a lot from me but at the same time they also give me a lot of love.

“You just have to balance that and criticism sometimes is good because you have to look back at what you did that was not good, so for me I take it positively.”

United’s new season begins with a rematch against Manchester City from the FA Cup final in this Saturday’s Community Shield.

Adding another piece of silverware, following the League Cup two seasons ago, would be a significant boost.

However, Onana insists that the team should be aiming for even greater achievements.

He said: “I don’t think it was good enough last season because I came from playing a Champions League final and the FA Cup is important but not enough for Manchester United.

“The targets have to be really high and we will go for it this season.

“We are working very hard, really positive.

“I’m really excited about the new signings, I think the way my teammates are working hard every day, I’m feeling very positive.”
