Fofana, who has been with Monaco since 2020 after moving from Strasbourg, has made 175 appearances and scored seven goals.

United are considering several midfield options, including Richard Rios from Palmeiras, Burnley’s Sander Berge, Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, and Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat, who was on loan at the club last season.

Interest in Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte remains, but not at the current asking price.

United are aware that PSG are open to negotiations following their recent £50 million acquisition of Joao Neves from Benfica.

Meanwhile, Fulham are not expected to return with an improved offer for McTominay.

They have had two bids rejected, the latest being worth £20 million, and there remains a significant gap in valuation.

Fulham is now focusing on other targets, with Fluminense’s Andre being a player of longstanding interest.

Elsewhere, Paris Saint-Germain have initiated discussions with Manchester United regarding the potential acquisition of forward Jadon Sancho.

The talks focused on the terms of a possible transfer, and it appears that Sancho may be receptive to the move, with personal terms not anticipated to be a significant obstacle.

Sancho has recently returned to training with the Manchester United squad and has participated in pre-season matches after mending his relationship with manager Erik ten Hag.
