Chelsea finally agree £34.5m deal to sign Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid
Chelsea have reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid for the signing of Samu Omorodion
Chelsea have reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of striker Samu Omorodion, with the deal valued at £34.5 million (€40 million), according to The Athletic.
Should the transfer go through, Omorodion will sign a seven-year contract with an option for an additional year, extending until 2032.
Final details are still being finalized.
In other news, Conor Gallagher is set to travel to Spain to finalize his €42 million move from Chelsea to Atletico Madrid.
Atletico were reportedly in advanced talks with Chelsea regarding Gallagher’s transfer last week, with a fee of €42 million (£36 million) agreed between the two clubs.
The England international is expected to undergo a medical on Thursday and sign a five-year deal in the Spanish capital.
Recent developments concerning striker Julian Alvarez have led Atletico to soften their stance on Samu Omorodion.
Chelsea previously had a €32.5 million (£27.4 million) plus add-ons offer for Omorodion rejected in June.
The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Deportivo Alaves, where he scored nine goals and provided one assist, contributing to their 10th-place finish in La Liga.
Chelsea are exploring several striker targets this summer, and Omorodion’s potential transfer is separate from ongoing negotiations with Napoli for Romelu Lukaku and Victor Osimhen, which are expected to continue.
Born to Nigerian parents, Omorodion has chosen to represent Spain internationally and has been called up to both their under-19 and under-21 national teams.
Gallagher, whose current contract expires next summer, reportedly rejected a second two-year contract offer from Chelsea that would have put him on wages comparable to Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.
The Blues are keen to avoid a repeat of the Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen situation from 2022 when both players left as free agents after their contracts expired.
Chelsea will start their 2024-25 Premier League campaign at home against champions Manchester City on August 18.
