Arsenal poised to sell Eddie Nketiah to Marseille this summer

Eddie Nketiah is attracting interest from Marseille

Arsenal are set to approve Eddie Nketiah’s loan move to Marseille, with an obligation to buy for a fee in the region of €30 million, according to The Athletic.

Personal terms are already agreed upon for a five-year contract.

The decision now rests with Marseille, who must decide whether to proceed with the deal.

New Marseille head coach Roberto De Zerbi is leading the pursuit, and the 25-year-old forward is enthusiastic about joining the Ligue 1 side.

Marseille had previously made an improved offer close to €20 million (£16.8 million) in July, which aligns more closely with Arsenal’s valuation of the forward. The clubs have continued discussions since then.

Nketiah signed a new five-year contract with Arsenal in June 2022, just as he was about to become a free agent.

Under Mikel Arteta, Nketiah’s chances to play as the main striker have been limited due to the arrivals of Gabriel Jesus and, more recently, Kai Havertz, who has become the club’s first-choice striker.

Last season, Nketiah made 37 appearances for Arsenal and scored six goals.

However, he started only 10 Premier League games and was an unused substitute for Arsenal’s final six league matches as they competed with Manchester City for the title.

Nketiah also made his senior England debut last term, coming off the bench in a friendly against Australia in October.

He remains eligible to represent Ghana, as he has not yet made a competitive appearance for England.
