Liverpool agree to sell Fabio Carvalho to Brentford on permanent deal
Brentford are closing in on Liverpool's Fabio Carvalho
Liverpool have reached an agreement to sell young midfielder Fabio Carvalho to Brentford in a permanent deal, according to Fabrizio Romano.
After a challenging loan spell with RB Leipzig in the first half of last season, Fabio Carvalho rediscovered his form with Hull City in the Championship, scoring nine goals in 20 games.
He continued his impressive performance into pre-season, netting goals against Arsenal and Manchester United.
Southampton’s £15m bid for Carvalho earlier this summer was rejected, but A Bola reports that an agreement has now been reached for his transfer to Brentford.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Brentford will pay an initial £20m for Carvalho, with potential add-ons pushing the total fee to £27.5m.
Additionally, a 17.5% sell-on clause has been included. Fulham, Carvalho’s former club, will receive 17.5% of any profit above £5m from the transfer.
Carvalho is expected to sign a five-year contract with Brentford and is set to undergo a medical soon.
Romano posted on X: “Fábio Carvalho to Brentford, here we go! Liverpool sell Carvalho on a permanent deal.
“Understand fee will be £20m fixed plus add-ons as part of the package.
“Carvalho has accepted, as @abolapt reports; he’s set to undergo medical tests at Brentford soon.”
Despite interest from Liverpool, where new boss Arne Slot was reportedly impressed by Carvalho’s pre-season performances, securing a significant role was always going to be challenging for the 21-year-old due to Liverpool’s well-stocked midfield and attack.
With key players like Alexis Mac Allister returning, Carvalho’s opportunities would have been limited.
Liverpool are also pursuing a deal for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
The La Liga side are working to persuade Zubimendi to sign a new contract and stay, while Liverpool have yet to activate the midfielder’s £51m release clause.
