Arsenal turn down bid for Aaron Ramsdale
Aaron Ramsdale is attracting interest from several clubs this summer
Arsenal have turned down an advance from Ajax for England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, according to talkSPORT.
The European giants proposed an initial loan spell for Ramsdale, who joined Arsenal in 2021 for £30 million, making him the club’s most expensive goalkeeper at the time.
Since his arrival from Sheffield United, Ramsdale has made 89 appearances for Arsenal, winning the Community Shield in 2023.
However, Ramsdale’s position has been affected by the arrival of David Raya on loan from Brentford in August 2023.
Ramsdale made just six Premier League appearances last season and has not featured in Arsenal’s two pre-season friendlies at the Emirates.
With Raya’s move now made permanent, he is expected to be Arsenal’s preferred starter moving forward.
As a result, Ramsdale is among the players considered for potential departure this summer, with significant interest from other clubs.
Ajax, the 36-time Eredivisie champions, have expressed their interest but Arsenal are not inclined to approve a loan deal.
They would prefer to offload Ramsdale on a permanent transfer and are reportedly considering Espanyol’s Joan Garcia as a potential replacement.
Despite the setback with Ajax’s initial offer, it is possible that they may make another proposal soon.
Additionally, it was reported that Ramsdale has attracted interest from multiple Premier League clubs.
Wolves, Nottingham Forest, and Southampton are all interested in signing him as they seek to strengthen their goalkeeping options.
Although Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has previously emphasized Ramsdale’s importance to the team, the club is now open to offers for the goalkeeper.
“This is a team sport and that needs the 24 players that you have to fulfil a role,” Arteta had said back in November.
“The role that you have in August might be very different to the one you have in March.
“Making early decisions in my experience is not something good at all.
“The team has certain needs that have to be accomplished and in order to do that you cannot do it with six, 10 or 14 players – it is impossible.
“You need everyone and Aaron has a really important role in the team.
“I have no messages for any clubs (thinking of making a move for Ramsdale).
“I can talk about my players, how much I like them and how much I like Aaron.
“We want him with us, that’s for sure.”
