Manchester City could learn the outcome of their high-profile case with the Premier League as early as January.
The reigning champions are facing 115 alleged breaches of financial regulations.
It was revealed last night that a 10-week hearing is set to commence next month.
City are accused of financial misconduct spanning nine years, from 2009.
If found guilty, the club could face severe penalties, including relegation.
Other potential sanctions include points deductions and fines.
The Premier League has charged City with failing to provide accurate financial information and details on player and manager payments.
The investigation was triggered by Der Spiegel’s publication of Football Leaks documents in 2018.
City are alleged to have channelled money from the club’s owners through sponsors in the United Arab Emirates.
City, who have declined to comment, deny any wrongdoing and are contesting the charges in an independent inquiry.
Meanwhile, City will begin their title defence at Chelsea on Sunday, following their run of four consecutive titles.
The squad has been boosted by the returns of Phil Foden, John Stones, and Kyle Walker, who are set for testing after an extended break post-Euros.
Midfielder Kalvin Phillips is attracting interest from Fulham, Ipswich, and Everton.
