Blow for Manchester United as Luke Shaw suffers calf injury and set to miss start of 2024-25 season
Luke Shaw represented England at the Euro 2024
Luke Shaw will miss the beginning of Manchester United’s 2024-25 season due to a calf injury, the club has confirmed.
The injury occurred at the start of pre-season training, and Shaw is currently focused on his rehabilitation with the aim of returning after the first international break.
The 29-year-old is expected to miss United’s Premier League fixtures against Fulham, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Liverpool.
Luke Shaw had recently returned to action for England at the European Championship following a hamstring injury but missed United’s penalty shootout defeat to Manchester City in the Community Shield.
With Shaw sidelined, manager Erik ten Hag has only Harry Amass available as a natural left-back.
Central defender Lisandro Martinez was deployed in that role during the recent match.
Tyrell Malacia, another left-back option, has been out for over a year and is still in rehabilitation at Carrington.
Manchester United are reportedly close to signing Bayern Munich right-back Noussair Mazraoui, who has experience playing as a left-back as well.
Shaw’s injury is a setback as he had already missed several matches last season, limiting his appearances to just 15 across all competitions.
United will kick off their Premier League campaign this Friday against Marco Silva’s Fulham at Old Trafford.
