Manchester United target Manuel Ugarte left out of training matches by PSG as Jorge Mendes touchdown in England for talks
Manchester United are keen on signing Manuel Ugarte this summer
Manchester United’s pursuit of Manuel Ugarte has hit a new development, as reports from France reveal that the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder is one of three players omitted from recent training matches by head coach Luis Enrique.
Erik ten Hag is eager for United to secure a new central midfielder before the summer transfer window closes, with Ugarte identified as a primary target.
However, negotiations between United and PSG have stalled, as the French club initially demanded €70 million (£58.9m) for the Uruguay international.
Manuel Ugarte has reportedly expressed his desire to join Manchester United and has already agreed to personal terms with the Premier League side.
PSG acquired Ugarte from Sporting CP for €60 million (£51.1m) last year.
Despite starting 27 games in all competitions last season, Ugarte was an unused substitute in both legs of PSG’s Champions League semi-final against Borussia Dortmund.
According to L’Equipe’s Loïc Tanzi, Ugarte’s future at PSG looks increasingly uncertain as Luis Enrique has been excluding him from recent training sessions.
Alongside Ugarte, PSG head coach Luis Enrique has also deemed Danilo and Nordi Mukiele surplus to requirements.
Recent reports indicate that United’s move for Ugarte had stalled due to disagreements over valuation, although PSG’s asking price has now dropped to €60 million (£51.4m).
United are now exploring cheaper alternatives, including Burnley midfielder Sander Berge.
In addition to their pursuit of Ugarte, Manchester United are expected to soon announce the signings of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich.
Jorge Mendes, Ugarte’s agent, has arrived in England for discussions with Manchester United, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.
The Red Devils have been in talks with PSG throughout the summer, but negotiations had faltered due to differences in valuation.
Mendes’s visit aims to finalize a deal for his client.
