Why Giorgi Mamardashvili will not join Liverpool until 2025 if he completes summer move
Giorgi Mamardashvili has already agreed personal terms with Liverpool
Liverpool are actively exploring a deal to sign Valencia’s highly-rated goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, according to The Athletic.
Valencia have set a valuation of over €45 million (£38.6m; $49.6m) for the 23-year-old, whose contract runs until June 2027 and includes a €100 million release clause.
Should the deal go through, Mamardashvili is not expected to join Liverpool until 2025, as Alisson remains firmly established as the first-choice goalkeeper for the upcoming season.
The Reds are currently well-equipped in the goalkeeping department, with Republic of Ireland international Caoimhin Kelleher impressing as the No. 2, particularly during Alisson’s injury spell last season.
Mamardashvili has made 100 senior appearances for Valencia and was a standout performer for Georgia during their run to the European Championship last 16 this summer.
Valencia’s sporting director, Miguel Ángel Corona, recently confirmed that the club has already received two offers for the Georgian international.
“We have rejected three offers for Javi (Guerra), two for Giorgi, plus interest that we have rejected for that price,” he said.
Mamardashvili was already on the radar of several top European clubs, including Newcastle United, Atlético Madrid, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Inter Milan, even before his impressive Euro 2024 campaign.
Valencia are open to either retaining Giorgi Mamardashvili or letting him leave for a significant fee.
The Georgian shot-stopper kept 13 clean sheets in 37 La Liga games last season and featured in Valencia’s final pre-season friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.
He is expected to start when Valencia faces Barcelona in their La Liga opener this weekend.
