Liverpool agree personal terms with Giorgi Mamardashvili
Liverpool are keen on signing Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia
Liverpool have reached an agreement on personal terms with Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 23-year-old Valencia shot-stopper has been on the radar of several top European clubs, but it appears that the Reds have taken a significant step forward in securing his services.
Romano posted on X: “Liverpool have agreed personal terms with Giorgi Mamardashvili.
“He’s keen on the move even spending one or two years elsewhere on loan.
“Bournemouth open to signing him, then he’d become #LFC new GK after Alisson.
“Agents now in Valencia for club talks NO agreement yet.”
Mamardashvili was pivotal in Georgia’s journey to the Euro 2024 tournament, helping the team secure a spot at the expense of 2004 champions Greece.
He delivered exceptional performances against Czechia and Portugal, aiding his country in reaching the knockout stages against all odds.
At the club level, he has established himself as Valencia’s starting goalkeeper since permanently taking over from Jasper Cillessen in early 2022.
If the deal goes through, it would resemble Chelsea’s acquisition of Thibaut Courtois in 2011, where the Belgian was loaned to Atletico Madrid for three seasons before returning to replace Petr Čech.
Alisson, who joined Liverpool in a world-record transfer from Roma in 2018, has been a key figure in the club’s success under Jurgen Klopp.
However, the Brazilian missed a significant portion of last season due to injury and is approaching the final stages of his career, turning 32 in October.
Considering Mamardashvili’s potential for growth and experience gain elsewhere, rather than being a backup at Liverpool, could be a strategic move to secure a future replacement for Alisson, whose contract runs until 2027.
While Mamardashvili’s current release clause with Valencia is €100m (£85.5m), the Spanish club seem open to negotiating a lower transfer fee.
