Manchester City’s Oscar Bobb has suffered a significant injury just days before the start of the 2024-25 Premier League season, dealing a blow to the club’s campaign to win a record-extending fifth successive league title.
The 21-year-old winger, who made a strong impression with a series of cameo appearances last season -including scoring a dramatic late winner in a 3-2 victory over Newcastle in January – was expected to play a key role in Pep Guardiola’s plans this season.
Oscar Bobb continued to shine during pre-season and notably assisted City’s equalizer in the Community Shield against Manchester United on Saturday.
However, on Wednesday, it was confirmed that the Norway international has suffered a fractured leg, an injury that is expected to sideline him for several months.
The news, initially reported by the Daily Mail’s Jack Gaughan, was later confirmed by the club.
While City have yet to complete a full assessment, the outlook for Bobb’s immediate future appears bleak.
With Bobb’s absence, new signing Savio is likely to become Guardiola’s primary option on the right wing.
Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku could also fill the void, offering some flexibility in attack.
This injury setback, combined with the departure of Julián Álvarez to Atlético Madrid, may prompt City to consider entering the transfer market for an additional attacking option.
Man City are set to begin their Premier League title defense with a challenging away fixture against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, August 18.
