Chelsea eye ‘shock summer move’ for Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho
PSG are also interested in signing Jadon Sancho
Chelsea are reportedly preparing to make a surprise bid for Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho.
Paris Saint-Germain were in discussions with United over a £51 million deal for Sancho.
However, negotiations have reportedly collapsed.
After being exiled by Erik ten Hag, Jadon Sancho revitalized his career during a loan spell at Borussia Dortmund in the second half of last season.
Despite Ten Hag’s public remarks that a “line has been drawn” under their earlier dispute, new reports suggest the relationship between the player and manager remains strained.
According to the German outlet Fussball.news, Chelsea are considering a bid that includes a transfer fee alongside two academy players as part of the package for Sancho.
Alternatively, the Blues might pursue a loan deal with an obligation to buy, covering Sancho’s £290,000-per-week wages in full during the loan period.
Earlier this summer, Ten Hag hinted that he and Sancho were working towards mending their fractured relationship.
“We spoke well. Anyone can make a mistake. If the player reflects well on that, then draw a line and continue again,” he told AD.
“This club needs good players, and one thing is for sure: Jadon Sancho is a terribly good player.
“I hope the click will come after all, and that it will contribute to our success.”
Last year, Jadon Sancho was exiled from Manchester United’s first team after clashing with manager Erik ten Hag.
The dispute arose when Sancho was criticized for his performances in training following a defeat to Arsenal.
In response, Sancho publicly claimed he was being made a “scapegoat” and refused to apologise to Ten Hag.
The manager, in turn, made it clear that their relationship could not be mended without an apology.
However, the situation has since improved, and the pair reconciled.
Sancho was a standout player during United’s pre-season tour of the USA and also featured in the Community Shield final against Manchester City, although he missed his penalty.
A potential transfer of Sancho to Chelsea would further add to the club’s extravagant spending spree under Todd Boehly’s ownership.
Chelsea have already spent around £160 million on 10 new players in yet another frenetic transfer window.
Their biggest signing so far has been the £54 million acquisition of Pedro Neto from Wolves on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Enzo Maresca’s squad now boasts 43 players, and the club is actively trying to offload several stars to avoid breaching Premier League squad regulations.
Recent sales, including Ian Maatsen, Omari Hutchinson, and Lewis Hall, have brought Chelsea around £86 million in return.
