Manchester United target Manuel Ugarte not named in PSG squad for Ligue 1 opener against Le Havre
Manuel Ugarte has been linked with a move to Manchester United
Manchester United target Manuel Ugarte has been omitted from Paris Saint-Germain’s matchday squad for their opening Ligue 1 game against Le Havre this evening, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Uruguay international defensive midfielder is eager to join Manchester United and has already agreed on personal terms with the club.
However, United consider the asking price too high, especially since PSG have secured a replacement for Ugarte after manager Luis Enrique deemed him surplus to requirements.
Ugarte’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has travelled to England this week for face-to-face discussions with Manchester United.
It is believed that a deal could be finalised towards the end of the transfer window.
PSG’s decision to exclude Ugarte from the squad indicates that he will not feature in tonight’s match.
Romano posted on X: “Manuel Ugarte, OUT of PSG squad for their opening Ligue1 game.
“He wants to join Manchester United, deal never been off.
“Absolutely on. But it will depend on conditions wanted by PSG.
“Ugarte has been clear: he wants #MUFC as soon as possible.”
In his debut season with PSG, Manuel Ugarte appeared in 37 games across all competitions, helping the team secure the Ligue 1 title, Coupe de France, and French Super Cup.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag values Ugarte’s qualities and believes he fits well with the club’s new recruitment strategy, particularly given his age.
So far this summer, Manchester United have invested approximately €182 million in new signings, including Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui.
With Profit and Sustainability Rules to consider, the club may look at loan deals as a viable option moving forward.
Whether PSG will entertain a loan move for a player they are keen to sell remains to be seen.
