Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Rodri will not be available for Manchester City’s Premier League opener against Chelsea on Sunday.
In addition, Guardiola revealed that winger Oscar Bobb is set to undergo surgery on a fractured leg this Friday afternoon.
Manchester City expects Bobb to be sidelined for “three to four months” during his recovery.
Rodri only returned to training on Wednesday after playing a crucial role in Spain’s victory over England in the European Championship final. During the match, he sustained a hamstring injury.
According to Guardiola, there is “no chance” Rodri will be included in the squad traveling to London this weekend.
“He hasn’t trained, I didn’t see him yet,” the City manager said.
“He looks good but we will see when he starts to move his body how he is.”
Bobb, who seemed poised to start the season after an impressive pre-season, suffered an awkward fall during midweek training.
“Hopefully he is going to be well and he will be back as soon as possible in three to four months,” Guardiola said.
“We are so sad for him, not because he had an incredible pre-season, that doesn’t matter, when the injury is long-term it is a problem.
“We are looking forward to seeing him again as soon as possible.”
Guardiola also disclosed that Manchester City have not received any proposals for Joao Cancelo, who has spent the past 18 months on loan at Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
“In training, we say ‘hi’, we talk, and train,” he added.
“That’s all.
“About what’s going to happen, it depends on his agent and the club.
“And at the end, if he has to stay, we will treat him like all the other players we have done since I’ve been here.”
