Salah: “We don’t need to put pressure on him, we just need to play football
Mohamed Salah asks for patience for Arne Slot as the Egyptian King scores his 9th opening day goal
Mohamed Salah has tasked the media and supporters not to put pressure on Arne Slot as the new manager begins life in the Premier League after scoring his 9th opening day goal this afternoon.
The no.11 assisted Diogo Jota for Liverpool’s first goal and doubled his side’s tally in the 2-0 win against Ipwich Town at Portland Road in on his 350th appearance on the first day of 2024-25 season.
The 65th minute strike takes Mohamed Salah outright top as the player with the most opening day goals (9) in the history of the Premier League, leapfrogging Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard and Alan Shearer all on 8 goals.
After collecting the Man of the Match award, Mohamed Salah spoke to TNT Sports about his thoughts on the win at Portland Road. “It was very tough today to be fair. The weather was really warm today, but it’s a tough team[Ipswich], I’m glad that we won the game today and I am always happy to make the difference for the team, that’s the most important thing. So we just need to carry on.”
On how tricky it is to face a new side especially on opening day, The Egyptian said “When they play at home especially, it’s quite tough, first game of the season the crowd is always out and they always push them. It’s quite tough, we knew that before the game, we played many times in the premier league so we’re experienced but expected a tough game.”
Jurgen Klopp lands first job since Liverpool exit
Salah was quick to play down the new record he broke today and rather choose to look to keep that momentum for the entirety of the campaign.
“I don’t know, but hopefully keep going like this till the end of the season, not just the first game. I’m always trying to help the time all the time, the most important thing is the team winning the game and I am always happy to score a goal or give assist, so I just need to carry on,” he said.
Mohamed Salah gave insight on how they’re taking in every idea from Arne Slot and called for patience for his new gaffer and the team.
“New manager, new system, it’s quite different for all of us but we need to adjust and take it step by step because some of the players came very late into preseason so we just need to know his way of play and enjoy the football.
“We don’t need to put more pressure on him, we just need to play football and enjoy our games and let’s see what happens in the end.”
