Joe Gomez did not travel with Liverpool for their opening Premier League match against Ipswich Town as he evaluates his options before the transfer window closes, according to The Times.
Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Fulham, Chelsea, and several clubs abroad have expressed interest in the England international.
While Joe Gomez, Liverpool’s longest-serving player since his arrival in 2015, could potentially leave Anfield by the end of the month, there is no certainty of his departure.
His absence from the squad is the result of mature discussions between the player and Liverpool, who are not pressuring the 27-year-old to leave.
New Liverpool head coach Arne Slot opted for Jarell Quansah to partner Virgil van Dijk at Portman Road.
Gomez proved to be a valuable utility player under Jurgen Klopp last season.
He demonstrated his effectiveness across the defence in what was arguably one of his best campaigns in a Liverpool shirt.
However, a late return from the Euros put him at a disadvantage in his efforts to impress his new head coach, leading to ongoing speculation about his future throughout the summer.
The speculation intensified after Gomez played just 16 minutes off the bench in the penultimate pre-season game against Sevilla.
This concern was further fueled by his omission from the 20-man squad for the league opener.
The Reds had agreed to a £45 million bid from Newcastle United for the England international earlier this summer.
The proposed deal also included a swap involving Anthony Gordon, valued at £75 million, moving to Liverpool.
However, Newcastle ultimately withdrew from the agreement.
Despite this, Newcastle remain interested in the player, though they have since shifted their focus to Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, for whom they recently had a £65 million bid rejected.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros, defenders Sepp van den Berg and Nat Phillips, midfielder Tyler Morton, and young wingers Ben Doak and Kaide Gordon were all left out of the squad for the match against Ipswich.
Several of these players are expected to depart Liverpool before the transfer window closes in less than two weeks, either on permanent or temporary transfers.
