Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to make documentary about Manchester United drama
Sir Jim Ratcliffe arrived at Manchester United in February
Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s arrival at Manchester United in February, the Red Devils have undergone significant upheaval, which may soon be captured in a documentary.
Ratcliffe, the British petrochemicals billionaire, completed a 27.7% takeover of United earlier this year.
His involvement has led to widespread changes, including bringing in new staff from his INEOS group, hiring additional personnel, and making hundreds of redundancies.
In July, a major restructuring resulted in 250 job cuts after consultants identified areas for savings.
Despite a turbulent period, Erik ten Hag retained his position as manager, thanks to winning the FA Cup.
He has since been bolstered by four summer signings, totaling £150 million.
The driving force behind these changes is to restore United’s success and profitability for both Ratcliffe and the Glazer family, who retain a stake in the club.
Ratcliffe is reportedly keen on turning this period of transformation into content, believing that a behind-the-scenes documentary would appeal to fans.
According to The Times, Ratcliffe has been maintaining a video diary since February, and a sports writer has been hired to document the process.
Matt Dickinson will be writing a book on the early stages of INEOS’ involvement at United, which could potentially be adapted into a documentary as well.
In recent years, Manchester United have struggled both on the pitch and in content creation compared to its rivals.
Manchester City, Arsenal, and Tottenham have successfully leveraged documentaries to provide fans with an exclusive look behind the scenes, and these have performed well on streaming platforms.
The “All Or Nothing” series featuring City, Arsenal, and Spurs have been notable successes for Amazon. Liverpool also has footage from Jürgen Klopp’s final season but has yet to decide on its use.
Amazon Prime recently released a series about the 1999 United squad, titled “99,” and may be interested in exploring another documentary.
Speaking in February, Ratcliffe outlined his goals for United. “We have to ensure that the right people end up in the right positions,” he said.
“Every person in management must be world-class.
“And then it is important to create a positive, supportive, friendly and high-quality environment.
“That culture was missing before.
“Only in such an environment can you get the best out of sportsmen.
“If successful, the results will follow automatically.
“That’s the plan and I believe in it.”
Manchester United began their Premier League season with a 1-0 victory over Fulham on Friday night.
The decisive moment came late in the match, with new signing Joshua Zirkzee netting the winner after coming off the bench.
Additionally, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui made their debuts for United, following their transfers from Bayern Munich.
