Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is expected to fly to Spain on Tuesday evening to finalise his transfer to Atletico Madrid, according to The Athletic.
The two clubs have agreed on a deal worth €42 million (£35.8 million), which includes an undisclosed sell-on clause for Chelsea.
Personal terms were agreed upon some time ago, with the 24-year-old poised to sign a long-term contract at the Wanda Metropolitano.
The England international has been training alone while complications delayed his move to the Spanish capital in recent weeks.
The transfer was initially delayed due to the collapse of Samu Omorodion’s proposed move to Chelsea, as Atletico needed to raise funds to finalise Gallagher’s deal through a sale.
Atletico had their bid for Gallagher accepted last month, with the player agreeing to personal terms and undergoing a medical after flying to Spain last week.
On Monday, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid also agreed on a deal for Joao Felix, clearing the path for Gallagher’s transfer to be completed.
Conor Gallagher, who rejected three offers of a two-year contract extension with an option for a third year, was informed by Chelsea that he would be sold to avoid the risk of losing him on a free transfer next summer.
The midfielder enjoyed a standout 2023-24 season, contributing seven goals and nine assists in 50 appearances across all competitions.
After making his first-team debut for Chelsea in August 2022, Gallagher spent a season on loan at Crystal Palace, where he impressed with eight goals in 34 Premier League appearances.
On the international stage, Gallagher has earned 18 caps since making his debut for England in 2021.
He featured in five games during England’s run to the European Championship final but remained an unused substitute in their defeat to Spain.
