Manchester United trying new ‘formula’ to sign Manuel Ugarte
Manuel Ugarte has already agreed personal terms with Man United
Manchester United are reportedly aiming to sign Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte on loan, with an obligation to buy.
The Red Devils are keen to bolster their midfield before the transfer window closes, and Ugarte has emerged as their priority target.
Talks between United and PSG have stalled in recent weeks, primarily due to PSG’s firm stance on their €60 million (£51 million) asking price for the Uruguayan midfielder.
However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, United are exploring alternative methods to secure Ugarte without paying the full fee upfront this summer.
He posted on X: “Understand Manchester United are working on loan with obligation to buy proposal for Manuel Ugarte.
“Negotiations to continue with this formula as Jorge Mendes’s leading talks with Paris Saint-Germain.
“Ugarte wants United, pushing a lot after personal terms agreed in July.”
United’s revised proposal is to take Ugarte on an initial loan deal, which would include a mandatory purchase clause.
Renowned agent Jorge Mendes is leading the negotiations, with Ugarte reportedly agreeing to personal terms with Manchester United as far back as July.
French outlet L’Equipe had previously reported at the beginning of August that PSG would entertain the idea of loaning Ugarte, especially after the arrival of Joao Neves from Benfica.
However, the French champions are insisting on a significant loan fee and a substantial future transfer commitment.
Despite making four major signings this summer, United are yet to address their midfield needs.
Their transfer activity so far has seen the arrival of striker Joshua Zirkzee, along with defenders Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui.
Manchester United kicked off their 2024/25 Premier League campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Fulham at Old Trafford on Friday, with substitute Zirkzee scoring the decisive goal late on.
Meanwhile, PSG opened their Ligue 1 season with a 4-1 victory at Le Havre, securing three goals in the final minutes to seal the win.
Notably, Ugarte was absent from the matchday squad.
