Wolves in talks with Arsenal over signing Aaron Ramsdale

Aaron Ramsdale is attracting interest from Premier League side Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly submitted a bid to acquire Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale on an initial loan deal, according to sources.

Ramsdale’s future at Arsenal has been in question ever since the club brought in David Raya from Brentford last summer.

Raya initially joined the Gunners on a season-long loan, before making the move permanent for a total fee of £30 million.

With Raya now solidifying his position as Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper, Ramsdale’s opportunities have diminished, leading to speculation about his departure ahead of the transfer deadline.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Wolves have expressed strong interest in signing Ramsdale on loan, with an option to buy.

Despite operating on a tight budget, Wolves remain optimistic about securing the England international and are willing to cover a significant portion of his wages.

However, there is an understanding that such a deal could be challenging to complete.

Arsenal have already turned down an approach from Ajax for Ramsdale, as the club reportedly prefers a permanent sale rather than a loan move.

Southampton are also monitoring the situation with interest.

Should Ramsdale exit, Arsenal are expected to ramp up talks for Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia as a potential replacement.

Earlier in the transfer window, Arsenal were also linked with Wolves’ backup goalkeeper Dan Bentley, though it remains unclear whether he will be involved in any negotiations concerning Ramsdale.

In an interesting twist, Ramsdale grew up as a fan of Wolves’ fierce Black Country rivals, West Bromwich Albion, though he has never played for a club in the West Midlands.

Coincidentally, Arsenal recently defeated Wolves 2-0 in the opening weekend of the Premier League, with Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka finding the net. Raya started in goal for Arsenal, with Ramsdale on the bench.
