Arsenal have reentered the race to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window, according to reports.
Osimhen, who is eager to leave Naples this summer, was previously linked with Arsenal.
However, recent speculation has focused on Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain as potential suitors for the Nigerian international.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Arsenal initially shifted their focus to Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres.
However, they have now reconsidered their stance due to Napoli’s willingness to negotiate on their asking price.
Napoli’s initial demand of €130 million (£110.4 million) has reportedly been reduced to around €100 million (£84.9 million), sparking renewed interest from Arsenal.
Discussions are expected to resume with Napoli’s director Giovanni Manna, who is in London for talks regarding potential moves for Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Billy Gilmour.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has recently downplayed the possibility of signing a new striker, expressing confidence in Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, and Leandro Trossard to lead the attack this season.
It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will submit a formal offer for Osimhen.
Napoli, keen to finalise the sale of the 25-year-old before the end of the month, will be attentive to serious proposals.
Meanwhile, Napoli is reportedly nearing a deal to acquire Lukaku from Chelsea, though Chelsea’s interest in Osimhen is being handled separately.
Despite their significant spending this summer, Chelsea are believed to be exploring the possibility of an initial loan move for Osimhen, with an obligation to buy next summer.
Osimhen, however, is currently not interested in a loan unless it includes a mandatory permanent transfer.
Paris Saint-Germain have already agreed on personal terms with Osimhen, a step Chelsea have yet to complete, but they have hesitated due to Napoli’s high asking price.
